UNIUM, Redefining Senior Mobility Through Lifestyle-Driven Assistive Design
UNIUM is a design-centric lifestyle brand that redefines mobility for the elderly, shifting the focus from ‘assistance’ to ‘daily living’. Founded in October 2024 by CEO Taehyun Yun, the company is bridging the gap between functional necessity and emotional desirability in senior care.

“We started with the ‘Roll Walker,’ an indoor mobility aid”, said CEO Taehyun Yun. “However, UNIUM is not just a single-product brand. We aspire to be a comprehensive lifestyle brand that supports every aspect of senior living.”

Yun identifies a critical limitation in existing assistive devices: “Current devices are functionally sufficient, but they often carry a stigma that makes seniors reluctant to use them. UNIUM approaches this not just as a functional challenge, but as a matter of user experience and perception.”

Regarding the flagship Roll Walker, Yun emphasized that it is the result of redefining the very role of mobility aids. “While traditional products are often associated with clinical environments and low long-term engagement, the Roll Walker features furniture-inspired design that blends naturally with domestic interiors. It integrates walking assistance, seating, and daily living functions. It is designed as a life-support platform rather than a mere transportation tool, serving as the starting point for a broader range of products.”

This vision has earned UNIUM prestigious international recognition. Starting with an award at the 2024 International Universal Design Competition, the Roll Walker has secured wins at the 2025 DNA Paris Design Awards, the Seoul Design Award (TOP 10), the Good Design Korea (Bronze/Ergonomic Design Special Award), and the 5th Korea-Sweden Young Design Award (KSYDA). Most recently, it was named a finalist for the 2026 Pin-Up Concept Design Award, totaling six major accolades.

UNIUM’s competitive edge is built on three pillars. First is its distinctive problem definition, addressing the root cause of why seniors avoid using aids. Second is its repositioning strategy, which frames mobility aids as lifestyle products. Third is its brand scalability, utilizing the Roll Walker as a cornerstone for a wider senior lifestyle ecosystem.

Currently in the pre-mass production and market-entry phase, UNIUM is focused on establishing distribution channels through a tri-sector approach: B2G, B2B, and B2C.

“Our B2G strategy involves registering our products as official welfare equipment for insurance coverage, while B2B focuses on supplying nursing facilities and silver towns. For B2C, we are targeting the children of seniors through a design-centric brand strategy that differentiates us from the conventional medical market”, Yun explained.

The company is also preparing for investment to facilitate mass production. “The funds will be utilized for molding, production readiness, certification, and establishing a foothold for initial market entry”, Yun added.

Regarding future objectives, Yun stated, “Our short-term goal is to stabilize our domestic market entry through mass production and welfare equipment registration. In the mid-term, we aim to expand into Japanese and European markets while diversifying our product lineup. Ultimately, our vision is to become a global lifestyle brand that empowers the mobility and daily lives of seniors everywhere.”
